Legal notice
This site provides general legal information, not legal advice. Reading it or contacting the firm does not create a lawyer-client relationship.
This website provides general legal information, not legal advice. Immigration and refugee law turns on the specific facts and dates of each file; nothing on this site can be applied to your situation without a consultation. Reading these pages, or contacting the office, does not by itself create a lawyer-client relationship.
About the information on this site
The content describes procedures as they generally operate under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and related rules. Laws, regulations, tribunal rules, fees and deadlines change. Every deadline on this site is deliberately marked (to be verified): before acting on any time limit, verify it against the current official source or with a lawyer. No decision should be made — and no deadline allowed to pass — on the basis of this site alone.
About the lawyer-client relationship
A lawyer-client relationship is created by a mandate: an agreement, confirmed in writing, that I act for you in a defined matter. Until then, information you send through the site or by email is treated with discretion, and communications made to seek legal advice are protected by professional secrecy — but I am not your lawyer, and no deadline in your file is being monitored by this office. If your situation involves a time limit, say so when you first make contact.
Professional information
Rachel Bourbeau is a lawyer (avocate) and member of the Barreau du Québec, practising in Montreal, and an authorized representative within the meaning of section 91 of the IRPA. This practice is subject to the professional obligations of the Barreau, including its code of ethics and mandatory professional liability insurance.
Links and external content
Where this site links to external resources — tribunals, government pages, legal aid — those sites are not under my control, and their content is not adopted as my own. The official versions of laws, rules and forms are always those published by the authorities that issue them.
Email is the most reliable channel — the line is often busy. We call you back. Do not detail your case in writing on this site. Give us enough to call you back — the rest is said out loud, under professional secrecy.
