After a positive decision

Have you been recognized as a Convention refugee or as a person in need of protection in Canada? You may apply for permanent residence with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Permanent residence is not granted automatically once your refugee claim is accepted. You must file a complete application, together with the forms, information and documents required by the immigration authorities.

Protected persons living in Québec

If you live in Québec, you must also take the necessary steps with the Government of Québec to obtain a Québec Selection Certificate (CSQ).

The application for permanent residence with the federal government and the application for permanent selection with Québec are two separate processes, and both must be prepared with care.

Family members in Canada or abroad

Your spouse, your common-law partner and your dependent children may, depending on their situation, be included in your application for permanent residence, whether they are in Canada or abroad.

It is essential to declare every member of your family, even those who will not be joining you in Canada right away. An omission or an incomplete declaration could have serious consequences for your application and for your ability to reunite your family later.
