Deadlines

Almost everything in immigration and refugee law runs on a deadline, and most of them are counted in days — not months. The clock usually starts when you receive a decision, which is why keeping your address up to date matters so much. This page gathers the main deadlines in one place.

Two honest warnings. First, every figure on this page is marked (to be verified) on purpose: deadlines come from laws and rules that can change, and how a deadline is counted in your file can depend on details — how the decision was sent, when it is deemed received. Before relying on any date, verify it against the current rules, or ask me to. Second, a missed deadline is not always the end: extensions and late applications exist in several procedures. They are never automatic, and they always need to be explained — but they exist.
